Eggenberger reports 2009 turnover with head

Upper Austrian brewery Eggenberg saw a year on year turnover rise in 2009 despite the sales boost the Euro2008 gave companies the year before.

Eggenberg owner Karl Stöhr announced today (Weds) that the firm’s annual turnover rose by two per cent to 16 million Euros last year, adding that the company did well in the first six months of this year.

Eggenberg delivered 166,000 hectolitres of beer to its clients in 2009 – the same amount it produced in the previous year in which brewers across Austria were boosted by the the European Football Championship in Austria and Switzerland.

Herbert Blechinger, executive manager of the Vorchdorf-based firm, said its subsidiary Eggenberg International currently exported to 40 countries.

He said the company employed 100 staff if all of its subsidiaries were considered.

Austrians come third in global beer consumption comparison surveys behind Czechs and Germans.

Water is however Austrians’ most favourite drink with an average capita consumption of 104 litres a year. The amount of water drank has risen by 31 per cent over the past ten years.
