Tirol Milch boss resigns amid takeover war
Tirol Milch chief Hans Schweiger stepped down as the battle between rivals Berglandmilch and NÖM to take over the firm continues.
Tyrolean People’s Party (ÖVP) Deputy Governor Anton Steixner announced today (Thurs) Schweiger decided to resign as head of the Innsbruck-based diary after yesterday’s board meeting.
Steixner claimed the firm was in a "good financial state". He said its board will wait for a report by a committee of experts before deciding whether a merger with or takeover by a competitor would make sense.
"I hope Tirol Milch remains to stand on its own feet – but only if this makes sense considering economic aspects," he explained.
The company had a 2009 turnover of 136.2 million Euros in 2009, down by nine per cent year on year.
Upper Austrian company Berglandmilch and Lower Austrian diary NÖM recently expressed interest in taking over their Tyrolean rival.
