Hang-on Hagman on hotel pick

"Dallas" star Larry Hagman has unravelled the mystery of his choice of hotel.

The US American television icon has baffled friends and business partners by checking into the Hotel König von Ungarn (King of Hungary) every time he visits Vienna. Hagman has previously remained tight-lipped on why he picked the hotel instead of opting for better known competitors like the Grand Hotel, the Vienna Intercontinental or the Hotel Imperial.

Entrepreneur Richard Lugner said last year when he revealed that Hagman would come to Vienna to attend a party to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his Lugner City mall: "He always stays at the Hotel König von Ungarn. I’ve got no clue why."

Now the 79-year-old actor told weekly magazine News: "I’ve spent many romantic nights with my wife there."

Hagman attended the most recent edition of the annual Viennese Opera Ball in March alongside Lugner. He was most recently in Vienna only last week when he participated in a VIP poker tournament at the Lugner City’s new casino.

Lugner’s ex-wife Christina was the first to drop out of the competition, followed by the head manager and owner of the shopping centre. "I was pretty sad," Lugner admitted. Dancing school boss Yvonne Rueff and singer Missy May won the fundraiser.
