Theessink tours Austria
Hans Theessink is back on the road.
The versatile guitarist and singer will perform in Perchtoldsdorf on 28 October. Theessink will also hit the stage in Graz on 23 November before playing a concert in Wiener Neustadt the following day. Visit www.theessink.com for more dates and ticket information.
The Dutch artist released his new album "Jedermann Remixed - The Soundtrack" a few weeks ago. All of the 18 tracks of the acclaimed record deal with life, death and destiny – topics that play a huge role in "Jedermann", a play by Hugo von Hofmannsthal. The drama is staged at the Salzburg Festival (Salzburger Festspiele) each year. Some of German-speaking Europe’s best actors like Klaus Maria Brandauer, Gert Voss and Peter Simonischek took the leading role over the years. Nicholas Ofczarek did so in 2010 and last summer.
"Jedermann Remixed - The Soundtrack" features new versions of songs penned by Theessink but also his interpretation of songs by global stars like Johnny Cash, Tom Waits and the Rolling Stones.
Speaking about his influences and which era he enjoyed most considering its music, Theessink told the Austrian Times after performing at the Lovely Days Festival in Wiesen in 2008: "My favourite decades were probably the 1920s and the 1950s. In those times, a lot of interesting music and art was being created. But of course the 1960s were very important too."
He added: "I was 20 in 1968 so I experienced what happened in that year quite consciously. (...) Many important ideas were coming out back then, but sadly little was carried over and preserved in a peaceful way. I am not the kind of person who says it was all better in the old days. It just makes no sense to constantly reminisce about the past. You have to move on!"
Meanwhile, online music news magazine Britishrock.cc (www.britishrock.cc) reports that The Subways will perform in Linz on 1 November. The British indie rock trio will hit the stage in Graz the following day. Another gig is scheduled for Vienna (5 November).
Viennese rockers Kreisky are at the ready to perform in Linz tomorrow (Sat). The four-member band will also play a concert in Dornbirn on 26 October.
