Austrian credit card usage abroad soars
Credit cards have retained their status as one of Austrians’ most favourite payment methods abroad, according to new figures.
Market-leading credit cards provider PayLife announced today (Tues) more than 40 per cent of usage of its 1.15 million credit cards occurred abroad last year.
The firm, which offers MasterCard and Visa contracts, said an overall 2.7 billion Euros of turnover were created and 26 million Euros transferred by PayLife-provided credit cards in 2009.
PayLife also said company-internal figures have shown that Austrians use their credit cards an average 14 times abroad to spend around 1,400 Euros every year, adding that a rise in these figures has been registered.
The company further announced that turnover created by transactions abroad soared by 19 per cent in the first four months of this year compared to the same period in 2009.
PayLife, which has a market share of 46 per cent, said it expected the usage of credit cards outside Austria to increase by 15 to 20 per cent in 2010.
