Health-insurance funds to run a surplus this year
Austrian health-insurance funds will run a surplus of 105.6 million Euros this year, according to the Main Association of Social-Insurance Funds.
It added today (Mon) that the nine provincial health-insurance funds would run a collective surplus of 39.7 million Euros this year despite that Styria, Salzburg and Lower and Upper Austria would run deficits.
The Association cited cost savings of 214 million Euros as the main contributor to the unexpected surplus, adding that costs had increased by 3.8 per cent this year compared to 6.0 per cent last year.
The Association, however, warned that health-insurance funds ran the risk of running a deficit of 244 million Euros in 2011 if they failed to comply with the financial goals of expected structural funding.
