Old-age hiker dies in Tyrolean Alps
The body of an elderly German hiker was found at the bottom of a rock face in Tyrol’s Karwendel mountain area this morning (Weds).
Local police said today the 84-year-old Innsbruck resident was reported missing at midnight after he failed to return from a hiking trip.
Dozens of mountain rescuers participated in the search operation involving helicopters. The man’s body was discovered on the bottom of a steep 100-metre ravine around 100 metres below the peak of the Hohe Wand mountain around 5am.
A pensioner was meanwhile found dead outside a pub in Gollrad, Styria, last night. Police said the man, 62, probably slipped and fell off a 15-metre embankment, adding that foul play had been be ruled out.
