Pensioner hospitalised after donkey attack

A 65-year-old man was hospitalised yesterday (Thurs) after a donkey bit off the tip of one of his fingers.

The pensioner went for a stroll at his wife’s farming estate in St. Michael ob Bleiburg, Carinthia, when one of her donkeys started to chase him out of the blue.

Passers-by hearing the frantic screams of the man managed to fend off the angry animal.

The local resident, who also suffered biting wounds on his thigh and back, was driven to Klagenfurt’s Emergency Clinic where surgeons tried to reattach the tip of his left little finger.

Officials did not announce whether the operation was a success.

Authorities in the province of Lower Austria said recently that a farmer, 51, died from chest injuries he sustained as a cow attacked him last month as he tried to force it into a lorry in Grimmegg.

The rampaging 600-kilo beast dashed off into the neighbouring town of Ritzengrub. Dozens of residents fled in terror before the animal was eventually shot by a hunter after several attempts to catch it failed.
