Youths confess hundreds of car break-ins

Two teenagers are suspected of being behind hundreds of car break-ins.

Vienna police said today (Thurs) the pals aged 17 and 19 admitted having stolen cameras, satellite navigation systems and cash from between 250 and 300 parked car since last October.

The young men laid down the complete confession after officers questioned them following an attack on another passenger at an underground train.

The pair, who are in custody, said they decided to make a living this way after failing to find a job.

Federal police officials said recently that the overall number of reported crime across Austria declined by 7.5 per cent to 131,914 offences in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2009.
