Lower Austrian and dog found dead in river

An autopsy has been ordered after the body of a man was found in a stream in Lower Austria.

Authorities in Wiener Neustadt said today (Fri) they started investigations after discovering the corpses of a local resident and his sheepdog in the shallow Piesting river yesterday.

They said the 48-year-old’s girlfriend had called police after discovering his car parked at the riverbed.

Sixty-four people drowned in Austria last year, according to state agency Statistik Austria.
