Job centre told sick man to retrain as bodyguard

The Austrian jobs centre service (AMS) has been slammed after suggesting that a man with a heart condition retrain as a bodyguard.

According to reports in the Austrian Krone newspaper the 55-year-old man who was a qualified tile layer not only had heart problems but also back troubles and was so poorly he even had trouble kneeling.

The man who has not been named for legal reasons told the newspaper: "She might just as well have told me I could be an atomic physicist or a secret agent. Of course I want a job but it needs to be something relevant to my experience and my abilities. "

Since 2003 his ability to do physical activity has been limited following a heart attack.

In order to use the AMS to look for work, job-seekers need to sign a contract promising they will not discuss things with the media. If they do benefits will be stopped.
