Hunter injured by 'friendly fire'

A hunter is in hospital after accidently shooting himself, police in Burgenland said today (Tues).

Officials in Deutschkreutz said the 40-year-old’s hunting rifle went off, blasting him in the thigh, when he put it on his car’s passenger seat after a hunt on Sunday night.

The man managed to call an ambulance and is now recovering in a clinic in Eisenstadt.

Deutschkreutz police said they were currently trying to find out why the rifle went off.
