Austrian police on the beat in Croatia

An international police cooperation programme will continue to bring Austrian and German police to a Croatian holiday hotspot this year, it has been announced.

Mladen Blaskovic, head of the police on the peninsula of Istria, said today (Tues) officers will wear their official uniforms but will not be armed when they join their Croatian colleagues on patrol.

Similar cooperation has been going on for a few years now with the programme aiming to avoid communication difficulties when holidaymakers become victims of crimes like theft or just need help or advice from authorities.

The Austrian officers will be stationed in Pula until 3 September, while the German police officers will stay in Porec until 30 August, according to a report by the Croatian Times.
