Novelist found dead in Danube
The body of famed writer Brigitte Schwaiger was discovered floating in a river yesterday (Mon).
Viennese police confirmed today that the corpse discovered in the Danube was the 61-year-old author. An autopsy has been ordered, they added.
Schwaiger was born in Freistadt, Upper Austria. "Wie kommt das Salz ins Meer" was a bestseller in 1977. Succeeding releases however did not sell as well as her debut novel.
The author revealed in an interview in 2008 that she had never got over the "shock" of rising to fame overnight.
