Kampusch case data offered to press

Police are investigating after a former top Kampusch case investigator’s laptop and USB drive disappeared weeks after his suicide.

Federal Crime Office (BK) officials announced today (Thurs) they had started interviewing a relative of Franz Kröll. The Graz-based special investigator shot himself in the head last June. The unidentified relative claimed he had "disposed" of the notebook and the USB flash drive after taking them from Kröll’s apartment.

Local newspapers informed police after they were offered a chance to buy data supposedly originating from the policeman’s archives in which he accurately kept records of developments of the investigation into the disappearance of Natascha Kampusch.

Kampusch was kept in a cellar dungeon made by paedophile Wolfgang Priklopil from 1998. She managed to flee from the sex fiend – who declared himself a "kidnapper and rapist" to his best pal – eight years later.

Kampusch, 21, will read extracts from her book "3,096 Tage" (3,096 Days) at a Thalia bookstore in Vienna’s Landstraße district tonight. Shop managers have hired around 30 security staffers to protect Kampusch.

Kampusch has spoken about her experiences during her eight-year imprisonment in various interviews over the past few days. She revealed that Priklopil shaved her head at one point and regularly beat her black and blue.

Kampusch also said her captor – who killed himself hours after she had escaped – had told her on 11 September 2011 that he was happy the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and the New York’s World Trade Center would "end the Jews’ world domination’".

Kampusch, who lives in Vienna, is reportedly cooperating with German producer Bernd Eichinger ("Resident Evil", "Fantastic Four") about turning the story of her life into a movie set for a 2012 release.
