Bulgarian gang planned to kidnap Austrian businessman
Bulgarian police have arrested four people suspected of planning to abduct an Austrian entrepreneur.
Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party announced today (Fri) the gang – neutralised by a special police force in federal capital Sofia – consisted of three men and one woman.
The minister added that the female member of the group, which is allegedly active in organised crime, was accused of having masterminded the foiled plans to kidnap the Austrian businessman who has been doing business in the country for some time.
Reports have it that the businessman also planned to get married in Bulgaria.
Tsvetanov added investigations have shown that the woman – who has a criminal record – was one of the would-be victim’s business partners, adding that police have confiscated weapons and wigs from the gang’s secret headquarters in Sofia’s Orlandovtsi district.
Sofia police have released a video documenting the raid. It can be found on the homepage of Bulgarian newspaper 24 Chasa under the following link:
