Contact with creepy crawlies in Vienna

Due to popular demand "A Bug's Life" (Das große Krabbeln) is back at Haus des Meeres in Vienna, Austria. The event, now introduced as, "Jungle camp for all!", gives the less squeamish amongst us the opportunity to come face to face with some of the largest creepy crawlies currently living in the zoo.

Various crawling creatures such as the giant centipede and the spitting cockroach will be presented by zoo keepers and the bravest visitors can even hold them themselves.
The jungle camp is open daily from 6 February until 17 February from 10am until 4pm. The zoo has chosen to hold the event during the school holidays so that all children hoping to face their creepy crawly anxieties can get involved.

The Haus des Meeres places great importance on personal contact between animals and people, to encourage preservation of nature amongst younger generations, with whom the responsibility now lies. Despite having a somewhat bad reputation, insects have an important ecological role and Vienna’s zoo are now hoping to encourage their conservation.

From 6 February until 10 February there will also be a daily feeding of the monkeys in the zoo at 11am and carp feeding at 1.30pm.
