Catholic youth group raises record sum for poor
The Catholic youth group Jungschar announced yesterday (Tues) that it had raised a record sum for the poor through its Carolling Action 2010 (Sternsingeraktion 2010).
Jungschar chairman Martin Krenn said the amount raised was 14.48 million Euros, 625,616 more than last year.
But Krenn also lambasted cuts in Austria’s development assistance.
"More than a billion people in the world are going hungry. To save at their expense is against human values," he said, adding that Jungschar had more than 500 projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America to help the poor there.
