Standard Liege end Bulls' European march

Red Bull Salzburg coach Huub Stevens admitted Belgian champions Standard Liege had the better players as the Austrian champions crashed out in the Europa League.

The Dutchman said after last night’s (Thurs) goalless draw: "They have better players and more quality than us. It’s difficult when you lose the first leg 2-3 after leading 2-0."

Stevens added his team was "not clever enough" to make it into the next round.

Red Bull Salzburg striker Marc Janko said: "The first leg was the decisive factor. Today the ‘lucky punch’ was missing."

Red Bull were the last Austrian team performing at international level this season. Rapid Vienna, Sturm Graz and Austria Vienna already exited the Europa League at the group stage.

The "Bulls", currently topping the Austrian Bundesliga, play away to Rapid Vienna on Sunday. Vice champions Rapid are currently in second place in the Bundesliga. The match has been sold out since last Tuesday. It will be broadcast live on ORF 1 (kick off: 3.30pm).

THE BUNDESLIGA TABLE AFTER 21 ROUNDS:

Sturm Graz, 36
SV Ried, 28
Mattersburg, 26
