Red Bull target Uruguayan, reports claim

Red Bull Salzburg are about to snatch Uruguayan Joaquin Boghossian, according to reports.

Austrian sports press report today (Thurs) that the three-time Bundesliga champions have set their sights on the 197-centimetre tall Newell’s Old Boys striker.

Boghossian, 23, did not make his country’s 23-member national team squad for the 2010 World Cup they finished in fourth.

"Bulls" coach Huub Stevens recently urged club bosses to provide a decent budget to find a replacement for Marc Janko. The Austrian national team captain left the club to join Dutch champions Twente Enschede after falling out with Stevens. Janko, 27, scored 39 league goals in the 2008/2009 season.

Mohamed Abdellaoue, 25, from Norwegian club Valerenga Fotball was recently also rumoured to be a potential Janko successor.

Red Bull were red-faced on Tuesday after losing 0-1 to Faroe Islands league champs HB Tórshavn 0-1. The Austrian powerhouse nevertheless marched on in the UEFA Champions League qualification round thanks to their convincing 5-0 win in the first leg last week.

Cypriot champions AC Omonia are up next for the "Bulls" who failed to reach the main stage of the Champions League ever since their foundation five years ago.

Rapid Vienna, who finished the season in third, will play FK Sūduva Marijampolė tonight. Peter Pacult’s team beat the Lithuanian cup winners 2-0 in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League qualification stage meeting.

Archrivals Austria Vienna face NK Široki Brijeg from Bosnia-Herzegovina. The first leg of the clash ended 2-2 last Thursday.

The Austrian Bundesliga will continue on Saturday. Red Bull will play Innsbruck, Sturm Graz are to host Kapfenberg and Mattersburg will clash with SV Ried.

Bottom lights LASK Linz are up against Austria Vienna on Sunday, while Rapid clash with leaders Magna Wiener Neustadt.
