'Bulls' ace Cziommer out with broken foot
Red Bull Salzburg star Simon Cziommer will be sidelined for more than a month, it has emerged.
The Austrian Bundesliga champions’ medical department announced today (Fri) that the German midfielder suffered a broken metatarsal bone in Tuesday’s 0-1 defeat against Faroe Islands team HB Tórshavn.
"He will be out for around five weeks," a spokesman said, adding it will not be necessary to operate on the broken foot.
Cziommer, who joined the team of Huub Stevens from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar ahead of the 2009/2010 season, will however be forced to wear a plaster cast, it has been announced.
The "Bulls" are set to play Wacker Innsbruck in the second round of the Bundesliga’s 2010/2011 season on Saturday before clashing with Cypriot team AC Omonia in the first leg of the third round UEFA Champions League qualifier next Tuesday.
Red Bull sealed promotion in the competition thanks to their 5-0 victory in the first leg of the qualifier against HB Tórshavn before the embarrassing defeat last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, rivals Austria Vienna and Rapid Vienna have reached the third round of the UEFA Europa League qualification stage.
Austria Vienna won yesterday’s second leg of the qualifier against Bosnia-Herzegovinian team NK Široki Brijeg 1-0 after the first leg ended in a 2-2 draw.
Rapid crushed Lithuanian cup winners FK Sūduva Marijampolė 4-2 after winning last week’s first leg 2-0.
