Under-19s defeat Greece

The Austrian Under-19s football national team beat Greece 3-1 at the weekend.

The squad of former SV Austria Salzburg star Hermann Stadler were the better side in the friendly played in Seekirchen, Salzburg, on Saturday.

Bayern Munich ace Christoph Knasmüllner scored twice (3’, 69’) for Austria. Red Bull Salzburg’s Alexander Aschauer also netted (29’).

Stadler said about his team: "It’s an extremely good year."

The weekend win followed the Austrian Under-18s 4-2 victory over Slovenia.

Austria’s senior squad face Kazakhstan tomorrow (Tues) as the Euro2012 qualification stage gets underway. The match – to be played in Salzburg – will be broadcast live on ORF 1 (kickoff: 8.30pm).

Dietmar Constantini’s team will also face Belgium, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Euro2008 finalists Germany in their group later this year and in 2011.
